The focus of this course is to train renovation, repair, and painting contractors how to work safely in housing with lead-based paint. You will learn how to handle lead-based dust in buildings constructed prior to 1978. Whether you will be repainting door frames, remodeling a family room, or rewiring for additional outlets in residences built before 1978, you need to know the danger of dust when you disturb old paint. ('Old paint' refers to pre-1978 paint and is presumed to be lead-based. This course will teach you some very practical steps to avoid making dust that may contain lead, to contain any dust you create when disturbing old paint, to clean-up dust that is not contained, and then to confirm you did it right. These work practices will keep you safe and reduce your liability exposure. This course is the first step in your certification process. After completing this course, you will need to score 80% on the written exam and complete an on-site, hands-on performance assessment to demonstrate you are able to effectively manage a renovation project and comply with the rules.
