ZigBee is a 350 plus member company strong industry alliance developing open global standards for wireless sensor and control networks.  Applications for these easy to deploy, scalable networks are everywhere, from your home, your car, to work, your phone, even where you shop.  ZigBee standards enable fast, competitive, broadly based deployments

Fuelled by intense global interest to develop better and greener technology, the Smart Grid has become a focal point as energy providers expedite their smart grid plans to keep up with demand and to meet regulatory deadlines. ZigBee is playing a key role to enabling this plan. ZigBee links devices starting with the energy provider meter and reaches thermostats, household appliances, heating/cooling, lighting systems and other household appliances.  For energy providers, ZigBee enables a standards-based approach to a myriad of energy efficiency programs. Consumers gain control over their energy consumption along with enhanced convenience and security.

As quickly as the consumer electronics industry has developed, remote controls have remained in prehistoric times.  This year, ZigBee Remote Control, an emerging new standard, will lead the charge on revolutionizing how remote controls operate. It eliminates the limitations of today's IR capabilities. It transforms the consumer experience, enabling advanced features such as non line-of-sight operation and bi-directional communications.

ZigBee is also being used to enable healthcare’s next generation of personal and professional monitoring devices. A recent analyst report estimates that wireless sensor networks can reduce annual healthcare costs by US $25 billion by 2012. ZigBee Health Care, adopted last year by the Continua Health Alliance, is helping achieve those objectives.  In the home or even on the go, ZigBee Health Care means personal health and wellness devices can be located where the user chooses, with robust and secure wireless connectivity providing the link back to the personal health record and care provider.

Bob Heile from the ZigBee Alliance will discuss:

·        ZigBee’s role in addressing energy efficiency programs for energy providers and consumers

·        Impact of ZigBee Remote Control on the CE industry and on the consumer

·        ZigBee wireless technology and it’s impact on the healthcare industry
